“Our Crowns Touched the Heavens” exhibit contextualizes the cultural significance of head wraps through interactive media, photographic images, murals and installations. This unique experience is an introspective look into the history, social impact and evolution of the African head wrap (Dhuku) to contemporary western durag.

In my sculptures, I address notions of temporality by using wood that has been dated. Using dendrochronology, I ground my work within the ongoing timeline, while creating tangible objects through which one is able to contextualize and explore culture and human connectivity.
